Miami Dade Fire Fighters will be on the streets collecting money Labor Day Weekend for Muscular Dystrophy and to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. Fire Fighters have collected to help children with Muscular Dystrophy every Labor Day weekend for 51 years. We will continue with our commitment, however, this year we will be working twice as hard as we will be collecting to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, while making sure the Muscular Dystrophy Association can carry out its work next year.Our Fire Fighters gave 100% as Hurricane Katrina hit Dade and Broward Counties, where most of our Fire Fighters live. Many were without power for days themselves but they came to work and ran more than twice their normal number of calls. We had several fires and serious medical calls. Our Fire Fighters did what they had to do, often working 36 or 48 hours at a time. We were spared Katrina’s full wrath, but it definitely challenged many of us.
