Miami Beach is an island city in South Florida approximately 7.5 miles long by 1 mile wide and has resident population of 100,000. At any given time, the population of the island can exceed 200,000 as we are an international tourist destination. Personnel: Miami Beach Fire Rescue has approximately 200 personnel assigned to four divisions: Combat, Rescue, Fire Prevention and Support Services. About 70% of the personnel are state certified paramedics. Combat and Rescue personnel are assigned to one of the three 24 hour shifts. Fire Preventionand Support Service are on a four or five day work week. The following represents our command structure in ascending order: Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, Lieutenant, Captain, Division Chief, Assistant Chief, and Fire Chief.
